Doing this on the final exam, however, constituted "closing the window" so I was given a 0% score. (This was my first experience taking an online traffic school course). I actually learned a lot doing this and felt this was the intent of the program and part of the learning experience of the program.
I, in fact, used the open tabs to google relevant information on the quiz questions, taking the attitude that this was like an open note quiz. I had used this technique throughout the course on the quizzes and had no problems. Technically I had never closed a window by Google Chrome standards. Checking my Google Chrome FAQ I found the definition of closing a window: to close window press the red "x" in the upper right corner. Going back through the original material I reread the warning given at the beginning: "closing the window" (my quotes) prior to submitting answers will count as a failed exam. On further examination and after several phone calls I was informed that I couldn't have any other tabs open on my computer (using Google chrome) which I did.

I did not close any windows (that automatically registers as an exam failure). I was told I had to retake the entire course and take the final again, and of course I had to pay for the course again. There was no indication as to why I had failed the exams.

After completing the final I pressed continue and was hit with a test score of 0%, plus I was notified I had taken the final twice and was locked out of the course (you only get two chances to take the final). I took the course over many days, passed all the section tests, and sat down to take the final.
Horrible initial experience on the California IDriveSafely course. I would recommend their online course, but avoid ordering your driving record from them at all costs! If I ever need to take defensive driving again, I may not even use at all however because I ended up having to pay $60+ for a driving record because they ripped me off! They essentially just took $30 from me, which is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. I emailed them about it, hoping they could either send me my record or refund me for the $30, and they refused to do either. My record was never delivered to me, and although I entered all my information in correctly, they "couldn't process" it. I entered in my information correctly, and paid $30 for my driving record. The second time I used this website for my online defensive driving course however, I ordered my driving record from too. The course is excellent, and the first time I ordered my driving record from a separate website and had no problems. It will generally cover topics such as techniques to drive defensively, alcohol’s effect on driving.I have unfortunately had to use twice now for online defensive driving.
